Film Photography Vs. Digital
I grew up taking pictures on my Dad’s old contax film camera. There is just something special about film. Try as you might, you just can’t emulate film with a digital camera. You can get close, but there is nothing quite like the real thing. Maybe it’s because it reminds us of our childhood, since that’s what most of us remember looking at as kids. But I think it’s more than that. The capture of light, the grain, the colors. It’s simply more beautiful. Photographing with film requires delayed gratification as you create images with wonder and hope, but then have to wait to see how the images turned out! When that email saying, “Your film scans are ready!” shows up in my inbox, it’s like Christmas morning!
If you’ve never had family photos taken on film, I would highly encourage you to do it just once! I’ll warn you that you may never go back to digital. You can add film photography to any session. It's an additional fee, because the cost of the film itself, sending it off to a lab, and receiving the digital scans and/or prints costs money. But I promise, you won’t regret it.
Here are some photographs from a recent 2-hour Slice of Life Session here in Austin taken mostly in a family’s backyard.
